We have a heart for supporting the local church in its ministry. We do this by providing regular training days with experienced youth workers and by supporting quality paper-based resources from British YFC. Churches which subscribe to materials like Rock Solid are fully supported by training to help get started and free participation in our training days.

Rock Solid clubs are designed to assist churches in catering for their youth, in particular their P6-S1 age group, using a fast-moving and constantly updated programme.
The programmes were originally created by New Zealand Youth for Christ and adapted into one 3-year program for use in the UK. Since the first club in Scotland started in 1996 at Aberchirder, the popularity of Rock Solid has grown rapidly, and there are currently clubs throughout Aberdeenshire.
Rock Solid is a tool by which a local congregation can further effective youth work in their community. It is a fast moving, action packed resource, which is based around a different theme each week. There are a selection of wacky games based around the week's theme, including a more detailed look at the issues involved, and what the Bible says on the topic. NESYFC works in partnership with each host church, providing training, leaders manuals, and any other resources required for the clubs.
In 1998, NESYFC ran a five day retreat at Carbisdale Castle Youth Hostel in the Highlands for Rock Solid clubs in the North East. This was a very successful week of games, prayer, crafts, talk, singing, a visit to Inverness, and fun. Rock Solid have since returned to Carbisdale and also been to Moffat and Badenoch near Aviemore. Now several Rock Solid clubs have run their own retreats. NESYFC can help your club to organise one either on its own or in conjunction with another club.
Additionally, NESYFC organises a "Summer Spectacular"; a day once a year in the summer for clubs to come together and enjoy themselves. This is a number of games and other activities that are held outdoors if possible. One club take responsibility for organising the event, with help from us. Previously this has been held at New Deer, Turriff and Oldmachar.
Rock solid costs £20 per month. This pays for the material and its ongoing development, and also for the wider work of YFC and NESYFC in this area, in addition to training on site and reduced cost at YFC training days. If you feel this too much for your church please get in touch anyway and we'll try to work something out.

Following on from the success of Rock Solid, the RS2 Programme is aimed at "churched" young people rather than the "unchurched". It can also be used for slightly older group than Rock Solid - to 3rd year secondary.
Like Rock Solid, it is a blend of games and activities relevant to theme and is completely relative to young people's lives today. In contrast, it has more Bible content than Rock Solid and allows young people to find out more about what it means to be a Christian.
RS2 is a relatively new resource, but is already helping churches to keep their teenagers. The YFC price for resources is now £20 for 1, £35 for 2 or £45 for all 3. This covers the issue and ongoing development of the material and also the wider work of YFC and NESYFC in this area. It also includes training on site and reduced cost (often free) at YFC training days.

Newly developed by YFC, Mettle is a cutting-edge resource designed to build Courage, Spirit and Character in 14-18 year olds. Mettle is not a 'quick fix' course of Christianity. It's more of an ongoing programme that will help 14-18s make informed choices, based on biblical thinking, throughout this rapidly changing and challenging time of their lives. The resources are easy to adapt for groups of any size and are suitable for those with or without a church background.
Mettle is made up of Core Subjects (basics of Christianity), Hot Potatoes (key issues facing young people), and Wildcards (fun ideas to strengthen the group through social/practical activities). A special Intro Pack provides enough material for 6 sample group sessions along with a DVD and guidelines on how to make the most of these new resources. The sample sessions can be dropped in and enjoyed at any point in your current programme. Alternatively, if you're planning to set up a new group, why not use Mettle as your ideal launch base? "Mettle gives you the tools you need to help build relationships, share responsibilities, and lead your young people to manage their own behaviour. Mettle links learning and practice in ways that help us to treat each person as a unique individual," Lorne Campbell, Church Resources Department, Youth for Christ.
Mettle is an excellent resource to follow on from an existing Rock Solid or RS2 club, or to run as a standalone group to reach out to unchurched young people in their mid to late teens. NESYFC can supply all three resources on behalf on national Youth for Christ, or whichever meet your needs; cost is £20 per month for 1, £35 a month for 2 or £45 a month for all 3. As with the other resources we can provide, full training and support is available to get your group started and to keep your volunteers up to date. Please contact us if you're interested. |
The Art of Connecting, developed by Youth for Christ, is a 7-week course aimed at equipping your 11-18 year olds in personal evangelism. By learning the art of 'Three-Story Living', your young people will gain confidence in knowing their own story whilst also learning to listen to and value the stories of their friends. By connecting deeper into God's great Story, your young people will see the impact on the lives of those around them. To find out more, contact us or visit the Art of Connecting website. |
Youth Alpha has recently been reworked in partnership with Youth for Christ. It's a more informal version of the Alpha course using the same teaching content but presented differently.
Each session can be broken down into bite size chunks with suggestions for interactive games, video clips, music and stories aimed at young people. The course runs over ten weeks, plus a weekend or day away in the middle. Youth Alpha shares the same important elements as any Alpha course - food, worship, a talk, and small groups.
The resources come in three streams, which can be used interchangeably depending on the group and resources available. They are: Alpha-Tech, using multi-media technology Alpha-Active, using interactive teaching material Alpha-Lite, a shorter version for use in school groups
Youth Alpha is being used in many countries across the world, from New Zealand to Sweden; from Iceland to the USA. It has been used successfully in big churches with flourishing youth ministries and also by individuals who have run it in their homes for a few teenagers.
